Confirmation
Confirmation at Faith Community Church
Many of us have been baptized as infants, and the vows of our baptisms were made for us by our parents. Confirmation, then, is the time when young adults (usually eighth-ninth grade) examine the Christian life they have been baptized into, and then confirm the vows that were made on their behalf.
Confirmation is a very special year at Faith Community Church! Our eighth and ninth graders meet with pastor Stu Merkel regularly throughout the academic year and the youth are given lots of personal attention. The journey of Confirmation walks youth through basic faith issues from understanding Christ, the Holy Spirit, prayer, the Bible and many other topics. We think about how God is calling us into relationship with Him today.
Each youth has an adult mentors helping them along the way by building on what is being learned. In addition to the discussion groups, youth participate in service work, learn about other faiths, and build relationships that last a lifetime. Our learning is interactive, and questions are welcomed and encouraged.
For those who have not yet been baptized, we expect that members of the Confirmation class will become baptized at some time before the day of Confirmation.
Confirmation classes generally start in September and the youth are confirmed in May.
