Pastor Stu provides spiritual leadership that brings a renewed love for the church, and has helped people find new meaning, new hope, and renewed purposes through the fellowship of God.

Faith Community Church is very pleased to have Pastor Stu as Senior Pastor because of his enthusiasm and love for the church and Jesus Christ, his gifts of leadership and administration, and his friendly personality. Pastor Stu also has a heart for missions, and is dedicated to raising up God empowering worship that is uplifting, joyful, and includes relevant dynamic preaching.

He also has a love of the surrounding community and for ministering in the greater Milwaukee area.

Brief Bio

  • Rev. Dr. Stuart Merkel (“Pastor Stu”) has been serving Faith Community Church since April 2009.
  • Pastor Stu studied at Fuller Theological Seminary earning a Masters of Divinity (1987) and Doctorate of Ministry (2009).  His doctoral study focused on spiritual disciplines and practical church growth and development.
  • He has served Congregational churches of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches for over 30 years in four states including Wisconsin, Connecticut, Illinois, and California.  
  • He has always been involved in his community by participating in organizations like Exchange Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Scouting.  He served on the Gurnee Illinois  District 56 School Board for 10 years and as a Police Chaplain.  He is also a Baseball official for fun!
  • In 2009 he was successful in starting a regional ministry for ALPHA USA as the first Regional Director for Alpha Wisconsin.
  • Stu and his wife Lynn make their home in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and have two boys and are first-time grandparents.
